Additionally, the AC has recently elected to become an organization within the AAMC Council for Faculty and Academic Societies. The AC Chair may elect to serve as the representative to CFAS. ![]() UNC SOM Virtual Faculty Exchange Are you interested in exchanging faculty for presentations and grand round sessions? Are you looking for ways to promote your faculty and facilitate regional and national invited talks? Consider joining the University of North Carolina School of Medicine Virtual Faculty Exchange! The way we envision the faculty exchange will work is that we will create and share a repository of speakers among institutions who are interested. Each institution should make their own tab on this shared google sheet and include speakers who have been vetted by the institution and who are willing to give virtual lectures elsewhere. Each institution/academy participating would also commit to inviting at least one person from another institution as part of the exchange, and recording it on the sheet as well. We hope this will allow institutions to benefit from knowledge at other sites, and also give faculty a chance to speak nationally. Link to Sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jzoOj5Cmm1SgWk6gVkuT9xxrdk5R5qPqQH7kl0xMLD4/edit?usp=sharing Feel free to add your institutions and speaker name/contact and titles of potential lectures. Our sheet is completed as an example. Please contact the AOE Coordinator Judson MacDonald, MA at judson_macdonald@med.unc.edu with any questions. The Faculty Scholars Program at NYU Long Island School of Medicine helps faculty members advance their teaching skills and develop curricula that effectively deliver high-quality, evidence-based medical education, as well as enhance abilities in conducting independent research.
As a participant in the program, you can choose one of two pathways: The Educator Pathway, which is 12 months, or the Researcher Pathway, which is 18 months. Classes are held monthly with asynchronous assignments in between. Interaction between participants is encouraged via discussion posts on our electronic learning space.
Class topics in the Educator Pathway include learning theories, collaborative learning methods, instructional models for designing courses, and how to be an effective leader and mentor in academic environments.
In the Researcher Pathway, we offer opportunities for searching and appraising literature about medical education, designing research studies, analyzing data, and presenting and publishing your research findings.
To complete the program, Educator Pathway participants must complete a departmental teaching plan, and for the Researcher Pathway, all participants must present their research project at the capstone symposium on campus and submit their research findings to the Northeast Group on Educational Affairs (NEGEA) annual meeting.
